B703 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French glove  / boudoir box dating from the Napoleon III era C1860. This is a fabulous piece of excellent quality. It would  make a fantastic addition to a château chic boudoir and be perfect for trinkets and special keepsakes.

The box is covered in the most gorgeous sumptuous turquoise silk velvet. It is very tactile and strokeable. Despite it's age the pile of the textile is still deep and lustrous with just a little wear along the front of the lid. The original fantastic pile and vibrant colour of the textile can be appreciated on the back of the box which has seen less sunlight.

To the corners of the lid are beautiful  repoussé brass appliqués in the shape of fans and in the centre is a decorative brass plaque which could be engraved. The front of the box has a matching decorative escutcheon plate but the key has now long gone.

The lid lifts up to reveal a sumptuous padded silk interior in a matching turquoise. The buttons are tiny and are also made of silk.

The lid has a very sturdy brass piano hinge. The box sits on 4 little brass feet. It is sturdy and suitable for use for many years to come.

It measures :- H 8.5 cm (3.3inches) x W 31 cm (12.25 inches) x D 10 cm (4 inches).

This is a fabulous atmospheric piece to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
