This is an impressive set of 4 antique French curtain tie / hold backs in the Empire style and dating from about 1880. Each one is large enough to take a substantial château curtain.
They are of excellent size and weight with wonderful detail and definition to the casting of the metal.
The back plate has an acanthus leaf design which is continued into the fascia of the hook where there is a beautiful hinged flower garland swag.
The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to a dramatic dark bronze colour.
The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed to a wall by hanging them on a hook. There is also a hole to take a screw for extra security.
They are in good sturdy condition. One of the tie backs has lost a rosette (see pics) but you have to search to notice this and it does not affect the security of the swag.
Each tie back measures :- H 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) x W 5 cm (2 inches) x D 19 cm (7.5 inches).
A superb set of tie backs to add a château chic statement and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
