B730 - SOLDThis is a magnificent large pair of antique French ormolu curtain tie / hold backs dating from about 1880. Each one is large enough to take a substantial château curtain. The hold backs have a stunning lion's head on the fascia of the hook. The lion has a fabulous mane and from his gaping jaws hangs a heavy knocker. Around the lion's head are wonderful scrolls and curls. The back plate has a heavy shell design and there is further scroll work. The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed to a wall by hanging them on a hook. This is how they would originally have been hung over 100 years ago but a hole could be drilled to take a screw for extra security if required Each tie back measures :- H 22 cm (8.5 inches) x W 8 cm (3 inches) x D 22 cm (8.5 inches).
