This is a superb pair of good quality antique French brass / ormolu candelabra dating from the 19th Century. They are in the Empire style and ooze château grandeur and opulence. They are very architectural and would look exquisite anywhere.
Each candelabra holds a central candle and has 3 further arms below decorated with delicate swirling acanthus leaf curls.
The candelabra stand on a base with 6 little feet. The base is decorated in the Empire style with a great deal of beading and detail. There are gorgeous acanthus leaf curls to either side.
There are two panels to the front and back of the base. The decorative ormolu detail to the centre of the front panels is set on a background of onyx while that of those on the back is cast into the brass.
A stunning onyx and brass urn with fabulous Romanesque handles forms the central column of each candlestick.
The brass and ormolu has mellowed over the years to a gorgeous buttery hue.
The candelabra are in good condition and are sturdy. They are very heavy, each one weighs over 2 kg, hence the postage costs.
Each candelabra measures :- H 37.5 cm (14.75 inches) x W 18 cm (7 inches) across the arms.
Whether placed on a grand fireplace or a simple country buffet this pair of candelabra will look stunning.
