This is a charming antique French pen and water colour in it's original frame dating from about 1920.

The subject matter is a rather precocious young lady watering the flowers. Her flimsy dress is rather short for the era and it is flying up in the wind. Her hair is very fashionably coiffed and she wears shoes to die for.

The piece is drawn in pen and highlighted with water colour. The colours have faded over the years to give us a subtle colour palette. The girl's dress is a very pale yellow and her watering can a sublime blue. The roses are a haze of the palest pink and the softest green.

The frame is also a gorgeous original 1920's confection. It is oval in shape and has gilded flowers  painted on a mottled grey background. It has a loop on the back for hanging on a wall.

The painting and it's frame are in good condition. The glass has slipped a little within the frame but this does not detract from the utter charm of this lovely little piece.

It measures :- 27.5 cm (10.75 inches) high x 21 cm (8.25 inches) wide.

A lovely little painting for a special niche and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
