This is an amazing pair of antique French curtain embellishments dating from the 1800's. They are of incredible quality and must have formed part of a spectacular château curtain ensemble. They ooze timeworn faded grandeur and could now be incorporated into a new project.
The most spectacular parts of the embellishments have to be the large acorns on the bottom. They are covered in gold wire with a gold wire lattice over. They are held on a gold wire rope above which is the most amazing gold wire braiding.
This is all attached to a heavy silk taffeta panel. The taffeta is pleated and is in a sage green colour to the outer edges and a champagne colour to the inside. The outer edges have a passementerie trim now faded and frayed with the passage of time. That on the inner edges however is also of gold wire and has therefore survived the passage of time and is shiny and intact.
The taffeta of the panels is very timeworn but the acorns and their accompanying splendour are in excellent condition and could be removed from the taffeta. The gold wire passementerie could also be removed and used.
The gold wire of the acorns, rope and braid has mellowed over the years to a fabulous old gold hue. The gold wire content of the embellishments makes them weighty pieces so they hang beautifully.
Each complete embellishment measures :- 122 cm (4 ft) long x 25 cm (9.75 inches) wide.
A spectacular pair of unique antique French curtain embellishments to use and enjoy and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe!
