This is a fantastic antique French Richelieu lace bed throw dating from about 1900. It's design has strong Art Nouveau influences and it features gorgeous winged cherubic angels.

It is hand worked in fantastic detail in fine linen in a lovely shade of antique cream. The linen has good weight and the whole piece drapes beautifully.

The entire edge of the throw is trimmed with a wide band of lace and this same lace is used to divide the throw into 4 panels. Each panel is worked in amazing cut out Richelieu lace.

In the middle of the central panel is a sunburst featuring two adorable winged cherubs frollicking among gorgeous full blown roses and leaves. This is surrounded by an intricately worked border of Art Nouveau flag irises which can also be seen in the other 3 panels.

The flag irises and other flowers in the design are highlighted with beautifully executed satin stitch embroidery in light coffee and cream shades. There are also runs of glossy satin stitch 'buttons' to outline the Richelieu lace panels.

The work is exquisite and the design breathtaking. The throw is in excellent antique condition.

It measures :- W 215 cm (7 ft 0.5 inches) x H 208 cm (6 ft 9.75 inches)

A divine bed throw to add an authentic antique French finishing touch to a boudoir and another superb brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
