This is a divine antique French pocket watch stand dating from the 1800's. It would have originally stood on a gentleman's night stand and he would have hung his watch from the hook at the top at night and placed his rings and cufflinks in the porcelain bowl beneath. It would now also be perfect for jewellery and would look lovely on a dressing table in a boudoir.

The stand is made of a wirework frame decorated with toleware flowers and leaves. At the top is a tiny hook to hold the watch and below this is an oval mirror. The mirror is bevelled and would have reflected any decoration that may have been on the back of the watch. The mirror swivels and would now be useful for putting on any jewellery (perhaps earrings) that is kept in the porcelain bowl below.

The porcelain bowl sits on the base of the stand. It has a thick glass lid with a bevelled edge and is secured shut with a little catch. It is decorated with a beautiful little blue bird and flowers in vibrant colours.

The stand and it's porcelain bowl have survived the years in good condition. There is a little distressing to the paper on the back of the mirror and the gilding has mellowed a little in places.

The stand measures 21 cm (8.25 inches) high x 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide x 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep.

A lovely trinket stand to use and enjoy and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
