B802 - SOLD
This is a superb antique French tassel curtain tie back dating from the 1800's.
It is full of timeworn faded grandeur and would hold back a substantial château curtain.
It has a large and plumptious tassel on the end of the long multi- corded ropes. The colours are lovely shades of green and neutrals and have a subtlety that only comes with age.
The tassel is held on a wooden core and has a central section of silk bullion cords. This is overlain with a 'net' of intricately worked cord on which hang further fluffy wool tassels. The top of the main tassel has a deep pile wool collar.
The tie back is fully functional but has timeworn a little over the years. The ropes and tassel are good and strong but the braid on the wooden loop has come a little adrift and the gold wire around the wooden core has loosened a little. This does not detract and adds character to these wonderful old period piece.
The tie back measures 123 cm ( 48.5 inches) from the back of the cord loop to the end of the tassel. The tassel itself measures 28 cm (11 inches) from the point of insertion of the ropes.
A gorgeous tie back to add an authentic château chic statement and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
