This is a divine antique French tapestry tablecloth / throw dating from the 1800's. It would look superb draped over a sofa and would make the perfect cover for a card table.

It is of superb quality and is made in wool and silk. The background colour is a gorgeous corally / dusty pink and there is a beautiful swag and roses design in subtle neutral tones.

The border of the throw is delineated with two twisted ribbon bands between which the roses and swags twist and turn along a gorgeous garland. The roses in the central panel are larger and more free flowing and it is here that we can see that the silk of the tapestry is worked in relief.

As if all this splendour was not enough the throw is trimmed with the most gorgeous heavy tasselled wool passementerie in toning shades.

The throw has good weight and drapes beautifully. It is in good antique condition and is clean and fresh. I can find just two tassels missing and there is a darker line across the middle which must be a storage mark  but does not detract.

The throw measures :- 172 cm (5 ft 7.75 inches) x 162 cm (5 ft 4 inches) including the passementerie.

A fantastic antique tapestry throw to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
