This is a divine antique French church plaque dating from the 19th Century.
It is made of repoussé toleware mounted on a velvet covered wooden shield.
The toleware motif is also shield shaped. It is very decorative with scrolls and curls and leaves. In the centre of it is the most gorgeous cherub's face. He has lovely curly hair and very chubby cheeks.
The velvet on the back is a lovely shade of faded rust. The gilding on the toleware had mellowed over the years to a superb shade of old gold with shiny highlights which really catch the eye.
The plaque measures :- 31 cm (12 inches) high x 30 cm (11.75 inches) wide.
There is a loop on the back for hanging on a wall.
This beautiful plaque would look wonderful simply hung on a wall or it could perhaps form a centre piece for a ciel de lit or pelmet.
A stunningly unique piece to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
