This is a divine vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room and make a fantastic bed head.

It depicts a beautiful romantic 18th C château garden scene. The setting is idyllic and is based on the gardens of Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles.  All the characters are happy and relaxed, and it is a joy to look at.

The garden is very beautiful with a profusion of lush flowers and trees. Water cascades from fountains, one adorned with adorable cherubs. There is a mill in the background and the garden appears to be on an island.

Within this idyllic scene are two lovely young couples. They are relaxed and happy and are accompanied by their pets. They wear beautiful 18th century costumes, the ladies have tight bodices and full skirts and the young men wear breeches and full sleeved shirts.

The colours of the tapestry are very subtle. The greens of the vegetation are highlighted with the pinks and blues of the flowers, water and costumes. In the foreground shades of ochres dominate the palette.

The tapestry is made of wool and linen and is in good vintage condition. The tapestry was once mounted on a frame and evidence of this can be seen around the edge.

It measures :- 139.5 cm (4ft 7 inches) wide x 47.5 cm (1ft 6.75 inches) high
