This is an exquisite antique French château pelmet dating from the 19th C. It probably came from an ensemble around a bed. It would now make a beautiful bed head and could be incorporated into any number of interiors projects.

This pelmet is made of the most delectable silk velvet. It is very tactile as the silk content of the textile can be felt and it is very difficult to resist stroking it. The velvet has faded to the most amazing shade of antique aubergine which is a colour that surely could not be replicated in a modern fabric. On our computer screens this colour is well represented in the photographs.

In the centre of the pelmet is a silk panel in a dark champagne colour. This is exquisitely hand embroidered with flowers and leaves in a smooth satin stitch. The work is beautifully executed and the golds and pinks perfectly compliment the aubergine velvet.

The bottom of the pelmet is scalloped and has a passementerie trim. A few of the bobbles have long gone but are not really missed.

The pelmet is fully usable as it is. Of course it bears some minor blemishes from the past 100 years are so but these melt in to the beauty of the piece.

The pelmet is lined. The lining is in good condition and has the same faded aubergine colour as the velvet.

The pelmet measures :- W 203 cm (6 ft 8 inches) x H 109 cm (3ft 7 inches)

A truly exquisite pelmet to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another superb antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
