This is a superb set of 4 antique French tassel curtain tie backs dating from the 1800's. They are full of timeworn faded grandeur and would hold back two substantial pairs of château curtains. They would look superb in a country house interior.
They each have a large, plumptious tassel hanging on their multi- corded ropes. The colours are lovely shades of terracotta and neutrals and have a subtlety that only comes with age.
Each tassel is held on a silk covered wooden core and has a central section of bullion cords. This is overlain with a 'net' of intricately worked wool on which hang further fluffy wool tassels. The top of each main tassel has two deep pile wool collars seperated by a silk covered section.
The tie backs are fully functional. The ropes and tassels are good and strong. The silk has fluffed a little over the years giving the tie backs their wonderful timeworn appearance.
Each tie back measures 67 cm ( 26.5 inches) from the back of the cord loop to the end of the tassel. The tassel itself measures 21 cm (8.25 inches) from the point of insertion of the ropes.
A gorgeous set of tie backs to add an authentic château chic statement to an interior and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
