This is a superb set of 4 antique French ormolu curtain tie / hold backs in the Empire style and dating from about 1880.

They are of good quality and weight with excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal.

The back plate is slim and elegant with acanthus leaf detail. The hook has a twisted rope effect and ends with an impressive crowned ball.

The gilding on the ormolu of 3 of the tie backs has mellowed with time to an antique patina but one of them remains bright and shiny.

The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed by hanging them on a hook. There is also a hole in the top of the back plate to take a screw.

They measure :- H 17.5 cm (7 inches) x W 4 cm (1.5 inches) x D 14 cm (5.5 inches).
