This is a beautiful vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. The colours and detail are exceptional and it is a joy to study. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room.

It depicts a classic idyllic 18th Century country scene. A group of 3 young ladies and a young man sit upon a river bank surrounded by an abudance of trees,  flowers and lush vegetation. Behind them water cascades from a cherub adorned fountain and there is a huge impressive urn.

Their sheep gather contentedly around them and one of them has a blue ribbon around it's neck. A picnic basket also with a blue ribbon sits upon the ground with a gorgeous straw sunhat propped against it.

The costumes of the characters are truly beautiful and their colours are stunning shades of  pink, blue, yellow and purple. The ladies have full skirts and laced bodices and the gentleman wears breeches and a fabulous coat.

Around the central pictoral panel is a border with a gorgeous pink rose and blue flower garland, and this finishes off the wall hanging perfectly.

The tapestry is made of linen and wool and is weighty.  It is in excellent vintage condition. There is evidence of it having once been attached to a rod at the top edge (see photos).

It measures 162 cm  (5 ft 4 inches) wide x 120 cm (3 ft 11 inches) high.
