This is a divine antique French spelter jardinière and tray set dating from the 1800's.
It was made to hold a floral display and would have formed the centre piece on a grand dining table. It would also be fabulous on a hall table or the jardinière could sit on a window ledge and the tray used on a dressing table in a château chic boudoir.
The jardinière is highly decorative and is made in wonderful detail. It sits on 4 scrolled feet and has superb acanthus leaf scrolled handles The sides have a central scrolled acanthus leaf crest beneath which is a gorgeous rose and flower garland.
The jardinière has a charming lift out copper tray to take the plants. The tray has two little handles and is in excellent condition with just a little verdigris.
The tray is also very decorative. It has a gorgeous ribbon, bow and roses design to each of the sides and the flat surface is covered in glorious detail. Each of the handles is adorned with a charming bow with ribbon tails. It sits on 4 tiny feet.
The silvering on the jardinière and tray has now mellowed to an atmospheric dark grey. The set is in good condition and is substantial. There is one tiny curl missing from the top of one of the handles of the jardinière. The tray has a little candle wax on it which we have left.
The jardinière measures :- H 11 cm (4.25 inches) x W 27.5 cm (10.75 inches) x D 12 cm (4.75 inches).
The tray measures :- W 38 cm (15 inches) x D 22 cm (8.5 inches).
This is a divine jardinière and tray set to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
