This is an exquisite antique French glass and repoussé pocket watch stand dating from the 1800's. It would have originally stood on a gentleman's night stand and he would have hung his watch from the hook. This would keep the watch safe and also enable the time to be easily seen during the night.
The stand sits on 4 acanthus scrolled feet. It has 3 bevelled glass sides. The front lifts up on a hinge to reveal a sumptuous padded and buttoned blue silk interior and here is the hook to take the watch.
At the top of the stand is a delightful twisted wirework handle. Once the watch is inside the stand it resembles a little carriage clock.
The stand is in excellent antique condition. The gilding on the metal is still bright and shiny and there is no wear to the gorgeous blue silk.
This exquisite stand could also be used to display jewellery and would make a fabulous chic addition to any boudoir.
It measures 12 cm (4.75 inches) high (not including the handle) x 8 cm (3 inches) wide x 8 cm (3 inches) deep.
Another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
