This is a superb antique French leather vanity case dating from around 1900. It comes with a set of accessories fitted onto a lift out section. The case could be used on it's own as a gorgeous handbag or perhaps for a few treasured keepsakes.
The leather to the outside of the case is thick and glossy in a rich shade of mid brown. It is embossed with a faux crocodile print. The lid of the case is also embossed with the monogram E.R. The case has a strong leather carrying handle and a strong snap closure.
The case opens to reveal the accessories which are fitted onto a lift out leather stand. Facing upwards, secured by leather tabs are :-
Two glass cologne bottles with metal caps and ground glass stoppers.
A long glass container with a perforated metal top.
Two wood backed bristle brushes.
A round metal stud box.
A metal razor box.
On the back of the stand are further leather tabs to take :-
A comb in a leather case.
A leather backed bevelled mirror on a stand.
A further mirror (possibly not original to the case) with a loop for hanging.
The case is in overall sturdy condition. The stitches to the 2 back corners of the lid have come adrift, but this does not seem to affect the overall sturdiness. One of the sides of the leather tab holding in one of the mirrors has also come unattached.
The case measures :- 24.5 cm (9.5 inches) wide x 21 cm (8.25 inches) deep x 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) high.
A gorgeous case to use and enjoy or to add an authentic touch to a display and another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
