B955a - SOLDThis is an amazing pair of antique French château curtains dating from the mid 1800's. They are very long, have a heavy interlining and absolutely ooze quality. They are not just spectacularly beautiful but they would be ideal for keeping out the draughts. We also have another pair B955b. Please see our other listings. The textile is a sumptuous superb quality silk moiré brocade. There are vertical bands of a delicate flower garland design in pinks and greens on a cream background. These alternate with bands of a gorgeous shade of champagne which highlights the watered silk and positively illuminates the curtains. The meeting edges and the bottoms of the curtains are trimmed with a gorgeous bobble passementerie. There is a little fatigue to the silk textile immediately adjacent to the passementerie on the meeting edge of both curtains (see photos). The tops of the curtains are pinched into pleats and there is evidence that curtain rings were once attached. The curtains are in wonderful antique textile condition. There is a little patination in the form of little specks in places (please see photos) but there are no obvious marks to draw the eye. One of the bobbles has a little grey paint on it. In the top outer corner of each curtain there is a tiny area of wear. The curtains are lined and inter lined. The linings do show the patina of many years of hanging but are intact and wholesome. Each curtain measures :- 310 cm (10 ft 2 inches) long x 124 cm (4 ft 1 inch) wide at the bottom and 88 cm (2 ft 10.5 inches) across the pleated top. A superlative pair of antique curtains to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another rare antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe! N.B. Any curtain accessories or kittens that we have used to display the curtains are not included unless otherwise stated.
