B960 - Stunning Antique French Brass Mount, Winged Greek Goddess & Butterflies 19th C
This beautiful antique French brass mount would originally have come from a mirror, bed or armoire and dates from the 1800's. It would look stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains.
The design is very unusual and is full of power and action. It depicts a Greek Goddess, probably Nike, being born along in a chariot pulled by butterflies. The chariot seems to be going at some speed as Nike's fabulous wings extend behind her and her robe is carried by the wind.
The detail in the casting of the brass is fabulous. The mount is of excellent quality with good weight. The brass has a lovely antique hue.
The mount has 8 holes to take pins for fixing and it measures 30.5 cm (12 inches) wide x 9 cm (3.5 inches) high.
Another divine château chic antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
