B2012 - Sublime Large Velvet Covered Antique French Display Stand / Plinth / Socle 19th Century

This is a sublime large antique French plinth / display stand / socle dating from the Napoleon III era Circa 1860. It would probably originally have had a dome and been used to display a clock. It would now be superb to display a bust or perhaps a collection of  jewellery in a shop window or on a brocante table.

The stand is oval in shape and is made of wood. It stands on 4 very sturdy wooden feet. The top and sides are covered with a sumptuous claret velvet trimmed with serpentine passementerie. The velvet and passementerie have faded in places with the passage of time to give that 'always been there' look. The underside is lined with a fine cotton textile which has a water mark.

The stand is in good antique condition. It is very substantial weighing nearly 2.5 kg.

It measures :- 50 cm (19.7 inches) wide x 24.5 cm (9.6 inches) deep x 7 cm (2.75 inches) high.
The display area measures :- 47 cm (18.5 inches) wide x 20.5 cm (8.07 inches) deep.
