This is a stunning large antique French crucifix / bénitier dating from the Napoleon III era C 1860. It is an exceptional example of it's type and is very decorative and architectural.

It is made of wood covered in the most gorgeous red silk velvet. The cross and bénitier are made of gilded spelter and look stunning against the red background.

The cross is designed with acanthus leaf scrolls and intricately detailed discs which represent flowers. Above the head of Christ are the letters INRI.

Beneath the crucifix is the holy water stoop which is also decorative and in the shape of a church font.

This gorgeous crucifix / bénitier measures 46 cm (18 inches) high x 24.5 cm (9.75 inches) wide x 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) deep. There is a little brass loop on the back for hanging on a wall.

This is a fabulous religious piece to use, or just enjoy for it's architectural beauty and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
