B385 - SOLDThis is a superb antique French bon bon / confiserie jar dating from the 1800's. It oozes faded grandeur and is as decorative as it is useful. The jar itself is made of gorgeous turquoise glass with a diamond shaped pattern. The glass is thick and heavy and full of the bubbles and imperfections that only really old glass has. The jar has a superb pewter lid and handle. The handle is very decorative with curvaceous acanthus leaf scrolls. It attaches to a pewter collar which has a laurel leaf garland design. The lid has a scrolled acanthus leaf handle and further decoration to the top. The combination of the turquoise of the glass and the soft grey of the pewter is breathtaking. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips to the glass or dings to the metal. The jar with the handle down measures 21 cm (8.25 inches) to the top of the handle on the lid x approx. 14 cm (5.5 inches) in diameter. With the handle up the jar measures 25 cm (9.75 inches) high. Filled with goodies and displayed on a shelf this beautiful jar would certainly add a château chic touch to any cuisine. This beautiful item can be seen in our shop in Frome, Somerset.
