B1408 - SOLDThis is an impressive pair of antique French château curtains dating from the 19th Century. They are long and heavy and ooze faded grandeur. They would add an authentic 'always been there' finishing touch to a period home and certainly help to keep the draughts out. The textile is a tapestry weave of classic design in shades of brown green and claret on a beige background. The meeting edges of the curtains are trimmed with a toning passementerie with woolen tassels. The tapestry textile is in good sound condition with no wear. The left hand curtain has one or two faint marks which blend into the design. The right hand curtain has some larger water marks with a pinky colouration (please see photos) which although visible do not seem to detract from the overall splendour of the curtain ensemble. The passementerie trim has a few bobbles missing (please see photos) but once again the overall effect is not compromised. On turning the curtains around we see that they have their original lining which is in good antique condition with just two small areas of wear on the left hand curtain. The top of each curtain is sewn with 8 metal rings. Each curtain measures:- 298 cm (9 ft 9.25 inches) long x 93 cm (3 feet 0.5 inches) wide across the top & 120 cm (3ft 11.25 inches) across the bottom. An impressive pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic shabby chic statement and another superb period French textile find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. Any curtain accessories we have used to display the curtains are not included unless otherwise stated.
