B1420 - SOLDThis is a beautiful hand painted church pelmet dating from the 19th Century. It would originally have been used to adorn a processional plinth holding a statue of Mary. This pelmet has a cream silk background which indicates that it would have been used during the August Assumption procession. It would now make a breathtaking addition to an interiors project perhaps as a pelmet over a bed or a pair of curtains in a salon. The front of the pelmet is exquisitely hand painted with a gorgeous frieze of sumptuous roses in stunning shades of pink, yellow, red and green. The roses and their buds and foliage are incredibly life-like. The bottom of the pelmet is trimmed with a fabulous gold metallic fringing. Wow! The reverse of the pelmet is lined with a fine cotton textile. The pelmet is in good antique condition. As one would expect it does bear the patina of age, but any blemishes pale into insignificance by the beauty of this gorgeous piece. We have photographed the entire length of the pelmet for close inspection. The pelmet measures :- 200 cm (6 ft 6.75 inches) wide x 35 cm (13.75 inches) high including the fringing which is 5.5 cm (2.25 inches) and the top edge which is 2.5 cms (1 inch). This is a fabulously unique hand painted pelmet to add a sumptuous finishing touch to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of divine antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe!
