This is a fabulous antique French hand worked tapestry and velvet church altar cloth / pelmet dating from the early 1900's. It would now make a breathtaking addition to an interiors project perhaps as a pelmet above a bed or a pair of curtains.

The pelmet is made in a sumptuous cotton velvet in a rich burgundy. It has a central panel of tapestry flowers and leaves hand worked in wool needlepoint in ochres, pinks and teals on a black background.

The edges of the pelmet and the tapestry panel are trimmed with ecclesiastical passementeries in stunning golden tones.

The reverse of the cloth is lined with a beautiful moiré textile.

The pelmet is in excellent antique condition and measures :- 154 cm (60.5 inches) wide x 35 cm (13.75 inches) high.

This is a superb pelmet to add a sumptuous finishing touch to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of divine antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe!
