This is a charming vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room and make a fantastic bed head.

It depicts a beautiful and serene 18th Century country scene in which all the characters are happy and relaxed and it is a joy to look at.

The setting is idyllic. The characters are on an island surrounded with an abudance of trees,  flowers and lush vegetation. Their pets and animals sit quietly amongst them. Behind them a gorgeous cherub fountain splashes water in to the surrounding lake.

The colours are very subtle and fresh. The scene is dominated with the greens, browns and ochres of the vegetation. The lake is a soft grey / blue and the costumes and flowers are featured in soft pastel blues and pinks.

The tapestry is made in linen and wool and is of superb quality. The clouds are worked in relief and have a three dimensional quality and there is very fine detail to the faces of the characters.

Around the central pictoral panel is sewn a wide border with a gilded frame entwined with gorgeous flower garlands, and this finishes off the wall hanging perfectly.

At the top of the reverse of the tapestry are sewn 8 wrought iron loops to hang it on a wall. The tapestry is nice and heavy and hangs perfectly.

The wall hanging is in excellent condition and measures :-
190 cm (6ft 2.75 inches) wide x 104 cm (3ft 5 inches) wide.
