B1220 - Divine PAIR Antique French Hand Worked Needlepoint / Tapestry Panels, Seat Backs

This is an exquisite pair of antique French hand worked needlepoint tapestries dating from the early 1900's. They are fabulously worked in amazing detail in wool and silk and depict beautiful 18th Century romantic scenes. The panels are unused and would be gorgeous incorporated into any number of interiors projects. They could be framed, or made into cushions or used to cover the backrests on a pair of salon chairs.

Each panel depicts a beautiful romantic couple in 18th Century costume. Each scene has a divine blue bow & ribbon tail crest and is framed with gorgeous scrolls, curls and flowers in delicious shades of coral, pink, lilac and green.

Our lovers are very sensual. One scene is set in a garden and the boy gently tickles the girl's lips with a blade of grass. The other scene is set beside a stream and here he gently embraces her to hold a flute to her lips. The scenes are full of sublime imagery. See the tiny birdcage in the tree, the bonnet, the basket of flowers .....

The workmanship and detail on the panels is astonishing. I cannot even begin to count the stitches used to depict the faces and skin tones of our lovers.

The panels are in excellent condition and have never been used.

They measure approx. : - 57 cm (22.5 inches) high x 46 cm (18 inches) wide.
The stitched area of the garden scene is :- 50.5 cm (20 inches) high x 37.5 cm (14.75 inches) wide.
The stitched area of the river scene is :- 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) high x 36 cm (14.25 inches) wide.
