B2068 - SOLDThis is a fabulous vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the last quarter of the 20th Century. It depicts a medieval pageant scene and is a feast for the eyes. The scene is set under 3 Gothic arches with three magnificent castles in the background. Riding through the centre of the scene are two men astride their fabulously decorated steeds. The men are carrying shields and have pikes decorated with pennants. They are ready to participate in the jousting which we can see already going on in the background. To the foreground are 3 ladies in amazing costume. They are relaxing amongst the millefleur and one is being serenaded by a young man with a lyre. This amazing scene is further set off by a plethora of luxuriant vegetation. The tapestry is woven in wool and cotton. It is lined on the reverse. There are 5 tabs at the top for hanging on a pole. The tapestry is in excellent vintage condition and measures :- 126 cm (4 ft 1.6 inches) wide x 91 cm (2 ft 11.8 inches) high not including the tabs. The tabs are 7 cm (2.8 inches) high. A delightful tapestry to add a French finishing touch to a room and another divine vintage French textile find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. The pole is not included.
