B2108 - Divine Pair Long Antique French Tapestry Chateau Curtains / Drapes 18th Century Scenes

This is a gorgeous pair of long antique French tapestry château curtains with 18th Century romantic scenes. They date from the early to the mid 20th Century. They are a feast for the eyes as a pair but would also be perfect hung singly, perhaps as a portière or a wall hanging.

Each curtain depicts a different 18th Century scene of couples courting in an idyllic rural setting. To the top of each curtain are 2 smaller scenes.

The tops and bottoms of the curtains have a shell and scrolled sewn border.

The curtains are lined and are sewn with a curtain tape.

The curtains are in good antique condition. There is some wear to the borders at the top and bottom of each curtain (please see photos) and my feeling is that the tapestry textile of these borders is older (19th Century) than that of the tapestry romantic scenes. There is a little darkening to the couple on the left hand side of the left hand curtain but this does not detract or draw the eye. In our opinion the curtains are ready to hang in a period home where their characteristics of age will be celebrated. They have not been dry cleaned.

Each curtain measures :- 238 cm ( 7 ft 9.7 inches) high x 92 cm (3 ft 0.3 inches) wide.
