B1679 - SOLD

This is a charming pair of  framed vintage French woven tapestries dating from early to mid 20th Century.  The tapestries are finely woven and each one depicts an 18th Century romantic scene.

One of the tapestries shows a young maiden leaning on a bridge. She has lost her clog in the water below and her beau is gallantly retrieving it. The other shows the same two characters in an orchard. The young man is up a ladder picking apples and the girl is collecting them in her apron.

The colours are gorgeous muted tones of green and ochre with touches of blue and cranberry.

Each tapestry is framed in gilded wood. The gilding shows the red bole below and is gently distressed in places. There are 2 loops on the back of each frame for hanging purposes.

They are in good vintage condition. The scene with the bridge has a few dots and a faint powdery mark near to the basket (please see photos) but this does not detract.

Each frame measures :- 25.5 cm (10 inches) square.

A delightful pair of  tapestries to add an authentic finishing touch and another divine vintage French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
