B1743 - Fabulous Antique French Portrait, Purple Velvet Frame, Bow & Ribbon Crest, 1877

This is a fabulous antique French velvet on wood picture frame with a charming signed portrait dated 1877. It would certainly add an atmospheric antique finishing touch to a period interior.

The frame is in the Napoleon III style and is covered in a gorgeous silk velvet in a divine shade of aubergine. It has a raised central oval with a beautiful gilded bow & ribbontail crest with rose, flower and laurel leaf detail. The reverse of the frame has a large stand and there is a substantial loop for hanging.

Within the central oval and under glass is a charming portrait of a woman executed in soft muted tones.

The frame and it's portrait are in sturdy antique condition. As one would expect after 145 years the velvet has worn a little and the gilding on the crest has mellowed and patinated but these features just add further charm to this wonderful old piece.

The frame measures :- 43 cm (17 inches) high x 36 cm (14.1 inches) wide.
