B1863 - Gorgeous Antique Religious Bisque Benitier, Two Beautiful Winged Angels & Shell

This is a gorgeous antique bisque bénitier or holy water stoup. It probably originates from Germany and has a maker's mark which we have not authenticated. It is made and painted in lovely colour and detail. It would be perfect for hanging on a wall as part of a period display or religious collection.

Two beautiful winged angels hold a fabulous shell. The angels have lovely long hair and exquisite finely painted faces with rosy cheeks and lips. One of the angels has a gilded star to her forehead and holds a gilded cross. The other has a lovely dress with tiny pastel flowers. Their wings form a frame around them.

The shell has a lilac edge and beneath it we can see the angels' feet sticking out in unison.

The colours are soft lilac, turquoise and antique cream. The contours of the angels' robes are highlighted with gilding.

The back of the bénitier has two holes at the top for hanging on a wall.

It measures :- 23.5 cm (9.25 inches) high x 17 cm (6.7 inches) wide x approx 11 cm (4.3 inches) deep.
