B1933 - Superb Pair Antique French Gilded Empire Style Curtain Tie / Hold Backs, 19th Century

This is a superb pair of antique French gilded metal curtain tie / hold backs dating from the 1800's. They would certainly add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a curtain ensemble.

They are substantial pieces of good quality and weight with excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal.

The fascia of the hook has a beautiful rose garland wreath crest. The back plate and the hook both have acanthus leaf detail.

The gilding on the metal has mellowed over the years to a dramatic dark patina in places with subtle highlights of the original glow coming through.

The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed by hanging them on a hook. There is also a hole to take a screw.

They measure approx :- H 19 cm (7.5 inches) x W 5.25 cm (2 inches) x D 15.75 cm (6.25 inches).
