B1980 - SOLD

Well, what can I say, except that this is one of the most exquisite hand made antique French mirrors I have ever seen!

It is covered in a cream moiré silk and is edged with a metallic wire passementerie now faded and dulled with the passage of time. Within this is a border of embroidery in a metallic thread.

To the centre is the oval aperture that holds the mirror plate. This is also edged with metallic passementerie. Above and below the mirror are beautiful silk ribbonwork flowers and leaves in faded pastel shades of blue, pink and green.

A gorgeous, pert ribbon bow crest completes this fabulous piece of work.

The reverse of the mirror is also covered in the cream silk. There is a stand and a metal loop for hanging on a wall. There is also a panel held in place with tabs and pins. This could be removed in order to change the mirror for a photograph.

The mirror is in good antique condition, with some fading and a little patina to the textiles. The mirror plate does move a little in it's setting but is easily adjusted back. At some stage in it's life someone has used a marker pen on the back but this will of course not show when in situ.

It measures :- 41.5 cm (16.3 inches) high to the top of the bow x 31 cm (12.2 inches) wide.

A fabulous hand embellished mirror to add to a collection and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
