B1511 - SOLDThis is a fabulous antique French hand embroidered church pelmet dating from the 19th Century. It would originally have been used to adorn a processional plinth holding a statue of Mary. The is one of the most beautiful I have seen. It would now make a breathtaking addition to an interiors project perhaps as a pelmet above a bed or a pair of curtains. The pelmet is made in a sumptuous moiré silk in a very pale cream. Along it's length it is hand embroidered with a tendril design with roses, grapes and ears of corn. The colours are vibrant shades of red, purple, green and ochre which look superb against the pale background. At the centre of the pelmet the letters J, H & S are embroidered and outlined in a gold thread. The bottom of the pelmet is scalloped and is trimmed with gold wire fringing and 6 fantastic gold wire tassels. A golden passementerie along the top and sides completes this amazing ensemble. The reverse of the pelmet is lined with a beautiful saffron coloured cotton textile. The pelmet is in excellent antique condition. Apart from a few age spots along the very top edge it looks like it has hardly been used. We have photographed the entire length of the pelmet for close inspection. The pelmet measures :- 290 cm (9 ft 6 inches) wide x 35 cm (13.75 inches) high including the fringing which is 5 cm (2 inches) and the top edge which is 3 cms (1.1 inches). This is a fabulously unique hand embroidered pelmet to add a sumptuous finishing touch to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of divine antique French textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe!
